The London Marathon
08/03/2008
I have been running for the past 3 years for fitness but last April I met my running partner Kath Godber who is a PE teacher at South Wilts School.
We ran the Cardiff Half marathon in October. At this point we had applied to run the London Marathon. In December we heard that Kath had a ballot place but if I wanted to run then I would have to run for a charity so I chose The National Osteoporosis Society. A few members of my family have osteoporosis and a few years ago I had a problem with my calcium levels and there was concern about my bones so I am happy to be supporting them.
A few weeks ago we ran in the Meon Valley Plod which was 21 miles of off road running and it was a tough run. I had not done anything like this since cross country running at school and I don’t think I want to again, having said that the sun was shining, the view at the top of the hills was amazing and the fruit cake and jelly babies went down well giving us the energy to finish this run in 4 ¾ hours…….not very much fun.
Anyway, here we are 6 weeks away from the event and I am told I need to do 2 X 20 mile runs before the Marathon. This fills me with dread, but this is what it is all about. It has now become very tough for me and the last two training runs, an 18 and a 16 mile run, have both been horrible.
When the going gets tough the tough go shopping…….seems a good plan to me at this moment in time!!
If you would like to sponsor me as I have £1300 to raise then that would be really kind. I have set up a justgiving site if this helps or there is a sponsor form in both surgeries and collecting boxes as well.www.justgiving.com/traceybadham
