Repeat Dispensing: a new way to get repeat prescriptions

08/01/2008

What is Repeat Dispensing and how does it work?

Repeat Dispensing is a new way of getting your medicines or other items you or your child uses regularly without asking your doctor for a prescription each time. You can go straight to your REGULAR pharmacist to request REGULAR prescriptions, valid for up to a year.

You will need to ask your doctor about this new system, who will then give you a number of additional repeat dispensing forms and an authorising RA form; your doctor will need to sign this once complete. You can then take this form to your regular pharmacy to get your first issue, which can then be repeated for up to a year with the additional repeat dispensing forms. You have no need to go to your doctor for new prescriptions, but simply return to your pharmasist and ask them to 'Repeat Dispense' your next issue.

Your pharmacy will however communicate directly with your doctor to exchange information about your treatment and therefore be fully aware of treatments you may consider confidential.
